1.What is CE marking
CE marking is a compulsory product safety certification system implemented in the EU countries to protect the lives and property of people in the EU countries and is considered as a passport for manufacturers to open and enter the European market. 80% of industrial and consumer products and 70% of EU imports are covered by CE marking. According to EU law, CE marking is mandatory, so if a product is exported to the EU without CE marking, it will be considered illegal.
2.What are the specific requirements for CE marking?
The height of the CE lettering should be at least 5mm, while the total length of the CE lettering should not exceed 12mm, the width of the CE lettering should be no less than 1 in 5. The thickness should be at least 1/5 of the height, and the inner circumference of the horizontal column should be at least 80% of the outer shell radius. Changes in size should be proportional.
In addition to the CE marking, the following information should be included on the product label.
1. Warnings and cautions printed in the local market language.
2. The name, trademark and address of the manufacturer or authorised agent, importer and any other markings required by local regulations.
3. If electronic products are sold in Germany, the electronic and electrical recycling mark should also be included, as well as the packaging recycling mark on the packaging.
4. These marks are not just a matter of complying with the regulations, but you have to appoint an agent to register and sign a recycling contract, otherwise there are serious penalties.
3. Which countries require CE marking
First of all, the CE marking is applicable to all EU countries. The EU has undergone several expansions and now has 27 member states.
The earliest official EU member states in 1995 included: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
The 10 countries that joined the EU on 1 May 2004 include: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus.
Countries that joined on 1 January 2007: Bulgaria, Romania.
The following countries are non-EU but still require the CE mark.
EFTA: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, 3 other countries out of 4 EFTA member states except Switzerland.
There is also one semi-EU country: Turkey.
Turkey is not accepted by the EU for religious reasons, but is determined to join the EU and has made the CE mark a mandatory requirement for entry into Turkey.
